Bead	Bead chains consist of a series of beads and are often used to hang pendants such as dog tags.

Belcher

Belcher chains are made from a series of interlocked round links. These chains are very popular and are prevalent in both their light weight and heavier counterparts.

Box	The box chain is a popular design and is often used to hang a pendant. They are usually quite fine, and on close inspection they are made from links in the shape of 'boxes'.

Byzantine

Byzantine is a highly attractive style of gold chain. It is a complex design made from several small links.

Curb	Gold curb chains are the most common style of chain. They are available in all different widths and are often used to hang pendants.

Figaro

Similar to the curb chain, except every fourth link is longer than the others.

Lantern

Paper

Paper chains are an attractive alternative to curb and trace. They are made up from rectangular links that hook into each other.

Prince of Wales

Rope	The name given to rope chains is given for the obvious reason that rope chains have the look of a twisted piece of rope.

Singapore

Snake

Snake chains are fine gold chains which are often used to hang pendants on. They have the appearance of a smooth seamless chain.

Trace

Trace chains are usually light in weight and used to hang pendants on. Because of their light weight they are usually inexpensive.

Choosing a Gold Chain

There are many different types and sizes of gold chains. Each size, and type, have a specific purpose.

It's important to pay attention when selecting the length of the gold chain that you buy. You'll also need to choose the appropriate type of chain for both look and purpose. The type of gold chain that you buy affects its strength, and not just its style.

Sizes of Gold Chains
When considering the size of gold chain to purchase, you first need to know your neck size. Always choose a size that is at least 1” to 2” bigger than the measurement of your neck. For example if you measure 14” around your neck, and you’re looking for a choker, don't buy a 14” chain (or it really will choke you). A comfortable choker would be an 16 - 18” length.

Here is the general guide to sizes (for the average person).

16” to 18” - Choker length to right at the collar bone
20” to 22” - Will hang just below the collar bone.
24” to 26” - Will hang a few inches below the color bone.
28” to 30” - These longer chains will hang to your bust line (or just below).

To Hang A Pendant

Gold Curb Chain: A curb chain is made up of oval shaped links that are often diamond cut to lay flat. This is your most common type of gold chain. They range from thin chains meant to hang your favorite pendant, to thicker chains to wear by itself. A curb chain maintains good strength and is recommended for pendants.
Gold Figaro Chain: A Figaro chain is made up of alternating oval and rectangular links. It closely resembles the curb chain, but each 3rd or 4th is longer than the others. This is another chain that we recommend for pendants.
Gold Snake Chain: The gold snake chain is made up of metal rings joined side by side. These fine gold chains give the illusion of being a solid gold tube. This is another strong chain, which is often used (and recommended) for pendants.

Just a Gold Chain

Gold Byzantine Chain: The byzantine style is a gold chain made up of oval links. The links are interwoven is such a way that it gives the appearance of an intricate solid design. These attractive gold chains are an excellent choice to wear by themselves.
Gold Rope Chain: The rope chain gets its name for obvious reasons. Two thick strands are interwoven so that it resembles a twisted rope. This is another style that makes a beautiful gold chain when worn alone without a pendant.
